How long in advance shall I book?
A minimum of three months is recommended to book for a wedding cake and one month notice is required for celebration cakes. Sometimes we might be able to accommodate a cake at shorter notice depending on our schedule, the design of your cake and the availability of the date, so please contact us to discuss.
How do I contact you to book?
Rasheda’s Cakery is a web based business. As such, I prefer to be contacted via email, Facebook messenger or by using our contact page on this website. This is because I find that it is much easier to keep track of all our conversations and your order online via email rather than face to face or by phone.
If you would like to discuss you order via phone/WhatsApp my number can be provided on request.
How much do your cakes cost?
Unfortunately, there is no set price for the cost of our cakes as the price depends on a number of factors which include:
- The size of the cake
- The ingredients required
- The complexity of the design and techniques required
- The amount of detail on the cake (e.g. intricate piping)
- Whether cake toppers or sugar flowers are required
- If you require delivery or set up.
However, please check out our pricing page for a rough guide on pricing.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
Yes you do. But please note what we call a “deposit” is really a booking fee. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure the date for you within 7 days of being provided with a quote. Short notice orders that are placed within seven days of the collection date are an exception to this and must be paid in full on ordering.
When is final payment due?
For celebration cakes, the balance can be paid in cash on delivery/collection. If you wish to pay the balance by cheque, PayPal or direct transfer, this must be paid seven days before delivery/collection.
Final payment for your wedding cake is required no later than four weeks before your collection/delivery date. We will not release your cake to you until payment has been received in full.
Do you have face to face consultations/ tastings?
Unfortunately, at present face to face consultations and cake tastings are not available. However, cake tasting events at specific venues and Cake Taster Boxes are organised and provided throughout the year.
Cake Taster Boxes are £17.50 plus £5 post and packaging. For wedding cakes the cost of the Taster Boxes will be deducted from your wedding cake order once it is placed. Taster Boxes will be provided on a monthly basis to avoid waste. Please contact us to find out the next posting date and flavours of our Cake Taster Boxes.
Do you make “free from” cakes?
No. Unfortunately, we are unable to cater to special dietary requirements as we cannot guarantee there won’t be trace elements of specific allergens (such as gluten, nuts, egg, dairy etc..) in our cakes.
How long will my Cake/Cupcakes last?
All of our cakes are freshly baked from scratch with no additives or preservatives, so your cakes will taste better on the day of delivery/collection or shortly thereafter. However, as a quick guide our cakes and cupcakes will stay fresh for up to 3-4 days after your event. It is recommend that you do not place your cakes or cupcakes in the fridge, particularly once it is cut as the fridge will dry out the cake and the fondant will sweat. Please keep your cakes or cupcakes at room temperature in the box they came in.
However, cake with cream cheese frosting must be stored in the fridge. You may wish to store your Buttercream cakes and drip cakes in the fridge (although this is not required) to keep them from melting, particularly in hot weather. If you chose to refrigerate your cake, it is important that you take the cake out of the fridge at least an hour (or more) before serving as cakes are best served at room temperature so that the buttercream softens.
If you would like to save your cakes for a longer period it is best to freeze them. Double wrap your cake / slices of cake with cling film and then wrap once with foil. Cupcakes should be placed in a freezer bag or wrapped individually with cling film. The cakes will keep in the freezer for up to three months. Once you are ready to eat them thaw them at room temperature and enjoy.
Do you deliver?
Yes we do. If you require delivery it is important that you let us know when you place your order or shortly thereafter, as it is often difficult to fit in last minute delivery request, particularly on the weekend. Please note that delivery is priced on a per mileage basis so if you live outside of London and the South East of England delivery may become quite costly for you. Please email us with the venue and postcode in order for us to provide a quote for delivery.
Can I collect my cake from Rasheda’s Cakery?
Of course you can. In fact, pick up is our preferred method for celebration cakes that are two tiered and under as a lot of our cakes are brought by customers across London and the South East. As I am a one women show it is often difficult to deliver cakes to multiple areas on busy days such as Saturdays. Additionally, the majority of our customers choose this method as it is free!
However, we do advise that wedding cakes are personally delivered and set up by us to ensure that it arrives in perfect condition.
How do I transport my cake?
Your cake should be placed on a flat surface such as the boot or foot well of the car with a non-slip mat (if possible). Do not place the cake on the chairs (as they are slanted) or on your lap as this will cause the cake to slant and become misshapen. The cake will also not be protected if you need to break suddenly.
Please note that we will not accept liability for any damage sustained to the cake once it has been collected.
